How CREA is taking action

Information related to the efforts to mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19 is constantly evolving. First and foremost, we recommend REALTOR® members follow the guidelines and precautions set by Canada’s public health authorities. See Health Canada’s website for comprehensive coverage.

We continue to highlight the unique challenges facing REALTORS® in ongoing discussions with government officials from various departments and agencies as they consider economic measures to support self-employed Canadians and small businesses.

Despite the uncertainty our industry faces, as leaders, we remain committed to the health and safety of our members, staff and communities. For this reason and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve asked that all CREA staff begin working remotely until the end of the month, to reschedule meetings virtually and avoid any non-essential travel. In addition, staff who have travelled internationally, including to the United States, have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

These are extraordinary times in which it can be difficult to remain positive, productive and to imagine a return to normal. The CREA Board has decided they wish to proceed with an AGM, albeit completely virtual, on April 21, 2020.

While this means we won’t be gathered as a group, nor will we have the chance to fully and properly thank and welcome our leadership, we are striving for normalcy as much as possible. We will be proceeding with elections as well as items our community has been discussing all year and which require decisions in order to keep moving forward as a profession and an industry.

In the coming days we will provide more details about the streaming and voting technology and will be seeking your collaboration for advance testing to ensure a smooth process.

These decisions are difficult to make but we remain committed to providing support to the REALTOR® community and are working to minimize any interruption in service to you. Outside of the office, CREA staff remain connected using Microsoft Teams and other collaboration tools like Slack and Zoom.

As more offices and households take steps to practice social distancing and self-isolation, encourage buyers and sellers to opt for virtual tours and communication. We understand local boards and associations have recommendations on the business going forward and there are vibrant ongoing discussions among staff leadership within the Association Executives Network.
