Business Data Analyst- Nova Scotia

The primary focus of the REALTOR.ca Data Centre is to build a data warehouse starting with Nova Scotia-specific data that the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) and the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) can turn into business intelligence and tools for members and consumers researching Nova Scotia real estate on REALTOR.ca.

The Business Data Analyst position will report to the Chief Technology Officer on a 12-month contract.

Function:

This position is a rare opportunity to join a new REALTOR.ca team that will build a REALTOR.ca Data Centre to generate advanced business intelligence and tools for REALTOR® members in Nova Scotia while enhancing the real estate journey for consumers in the province. The Data Analyst – Nova Scotia, will be the in-market lead for identifying and analyzing potential data sources, and plan for the usage and ingestion of the data within the REALTOR.ca Data Centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead data identification and collection activities of Nova Scotia data within the REALTOR.ca Data Centre. Potential sources include, but are not limited to: REALTOR.ca user behavioural data, NSAR’s MLS® System, local and provincial government APIs, and third-party data aggregators.
  • Be the liaison between the REALTOR.ca data team and the NSAR for all MLS® System data collection and analysis activities.
  • Proactively research available local and provincial government, and third-party data sources to identify opportunities to enhance the Nova Scotia data within the REALTOR.ca Data Centre.
  • Work with the Ottawa-based REALTOR.ca team to identify uses of the available data.
  • Work closely with the REALTOR.ca and NSAR teams to acquire rights to ingest data from governments and third parties.
  • Work within the REALTOR.ca data team to create data ingestion strategies in support of the data models.
  • Research, develop, modify, and deploy data-collection processes.
  • Develop policies and techniques for gathering and analyzing data.
  • Review and validate incoming data, as well as provide quality assurance of imported data.
  • Analyze data before reporting findings and data-driven recommendations for decision-making.
  • Collaborate regularly with various team members, including the REALTOR.ca data team and the NSAR.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (IT, IS, or business administration with IT focus) from an accredited university or college or equivalent certification or experience.
  • Work experience as a data analyst/business data analyst or in a related field.
  • High-level understanding of methodologies and processes for managing large-scale databases.
  • Ability to be work independently and able to work on teams cross-functionally.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and follow through with important projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize and analyze significant amounts of information.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve with a track record of producing results.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Ability to present complex information in a simplified way to various audiences.

Some travel is required.

Location:

Halifax, Nova Scotia. Most of the time will be spent working remotely with the REALTOR.ca team located in Ottawa, with some office time at the NSAR office in Halifax.
