The banner image captures two women engaged in a lively conversation at a modern, well-lit workspace. One woman, wearing a headwrap and patterned blouse, is laughing joyfully, while the other, with short platinum hair, listens attentively. The setting features warm lighting, coffee cups, and paperwork, creating a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere.

Our DEIA Commitments and Progress

We remain committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism across our association and industry.

CREA is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist environment for all our employees, volunteers, and members.

We believe our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism (DEIA) efforts is the right thing to do and integral to the long-term success and sustainability of our association, resulting in far-reaching benefits for our membership and beyond.

Diversity

We will work to recruit and retain employees at all management levels—and encourage the appointment and election of volunteers—who collectively reflect the rich diversity of Canada and the membership we serve, so they can bring unique perspectives to the table and together advance the association’s mission in more inclusive and innovative ways. We appreciate that these unique perspectives arise from a variety of dimensions of diversity, such as race, culture, religion, mental and physical abilities, age, sexual orientation and gender identity, including 2SLGBTQI+ identification.

Our Progress, So Far

Since publishing our DEIA commitments in 2021, we’ve been proactively embedding DEIA into everything we do at CREA, including our workplace culture, our governance processes and policies, our marketing and communications, and our social impact program.

Here are some examples of our DEIA commitments in action:

People and CultureGovernance and Industry CollaborationMarketing, Communications, and Social Impact
  • Our DEIA Working Group, comprised of staff volunteers from across departments, meets bi-monthly and collaborates on advancing inclusion in our workplace.
  • We made improvements to our bylaws and our committee application and appointment processes to remove unnecessary barriers to inclusion and encourage increased engagement by members from underrepresented groups.
  • We endeavour to use inclusive language and showcase diverse voices and perspectives in all CREA marketing and communications content.
  • We distribute a DEIA survey to CREA staff annually to measure our progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • We provide annual anti-bias training to help our volunteer leaders and decision makers recognize and overcome biases that may impact their work.
  • We have embedded DEIA considerations into our National Ad Campaign development processes and work to ensure our campaign messaging resonates with diverse audiences.
  • We offer all CREA staff DEIA training opportunities and educational resources.
  • We facilitate a DEIA Community of Practice that brings together board and association staff to share best practices, explore challenges and solutions, and build momentum for meaningful change.
  • We apply an equity lens to our national REALTORS Care® program and elevate stories of REALTORS® volunteering in service to equity-seeking groups, wherever possible.
  • We hold a variety of in-person and virtual events throughout the year, such as cultural celebrations and engagement opportunities, in recognition of commemorative days and months.

While we are proud of our progress, we recognize there’s much more work to be done. We strive to maintain our momentum to ensure the association continues to evolve and to better serve our members across Canada and bring our social purpose to life.
