Leading the National Housing Conversation

A closer look at CREA’s annual housing market forecast event.

Launched in January 2025, CREA’s annual housing market forecast press conference has quickly become a cornerstone of our national communications strategy.

We know housing is one of the most popular topics for Canadians. However, securing meaningful media attention requires more than issuing a press release. Our annual forecast event is designed to create a moment and position CREA as a national authority on housing and ensure our analysis and policy perspectives shape the broader narrative.

This is not simply a data release. It’s a strategic platform that elevates CREA’s economic expertise, strengthens our advocacy efforts, and reinforces our role in national housing policy discussions. As an association representing more than 155,000 REALTORS® across the country, our objective is clear: when housing policy is debated at the national level, CREA’s perspective is part of that debate.

On January 15, 2026, CREA CEO Janice Myers, CREA Chair Valérie Paquin, and CREA’s Senior Economist Shaun Cathcart took to Parliament Hill to release our quarterly housing market forecast to the national media both in-person and online.

From a possible resurgence in sales activity to the risks that could impact the market in 2026, CREA also used this opportunity to offer recommendations to help address Canada’s housing crisis. Our message on the lack of housing supply, specifically the “missing middle”, was heard loud and clear by the national media.

CREA received coverage from most major news outlets including CBC, CTV, Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Financial Post, among others. The forecast was mentioned more than 500 times in the media on television, print, digital and on radio, with a reach of more than two million.

More important than the sheer volume of content was its quality. CREA’s message, and recommendations for addressing Canada’s housing crisis were consistently integrated into the narrative across the 24-hour news cycle.

For REALTORS® across the country, this kind of national visibility reinforces your credibility. When clients see CREA leading the national housing discussion, it strengthens public confidence in the expertise you bring to every transaction.

While a lot of CREA’s policy work happens behind the scenes, this event puts it front and centre, showing Canadians, the media, and decision-makers that REALTORS® are not just market experts, they’re advocates for real housing solutions.
