Our Land Acknowledgement and Approach to Reconciliation

Our Land Acknowledgement

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) acknowledges that our work takes place on the traditional territories and homelands of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across what is now Canada. We honour their histories, cultures and contributions that continue to shape this country.

As a national association influencing housing, policy and economic opportunity, we recognize our responsibility to contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways. This includes strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and helping to address barriers Indigenous Peoples face in accessing housing and homeownership.

We offer this acknowledgement as a step in a longer journey—one rooted in listening, humility and a shared commitment to building a more inclusive future.

Our Approach to Reconciliation

At CREA, we are taking a thoughtful and evolving approach to supporting reconciliation, aligned with our role in Canada’s housing system and our broader social purpose.

Our current efforts are foundational and focused on:

  • strengthening awareness and understanding across our organization, including education on Indigenous histories, rights and perspectives;
  • building respectful relationships with Indigenous partners and organizations, and exploring where we can have the greatest impact together; and
  • embedding reconciliation into our practices, including governance, meetings, events, and how we engage with members, partners, and communities.

We are committed to sustained action and continued progress over time.
