CREA Launches New Certification to Help REALTORS® Support Seniors

Why you should enrol, and how.

Canada’s aging population is reshaping housing needs across the country.

While many Canadians aged 65 and older are choosing to age in place, others may consider selling, renting, downsizing or moving into housing that better supports their changing needs.

To help REALTORS® build the specialized knowledge needed to support these clients, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has launched the new Canadian Certified Seniors Representative (CCSR), presented by Chartwell on CREA’s Learning Hub.

Did you know?

According to Statistics Canada, by 2030, nearly one in four Canadians will be considered senior. As Canada’s population ages, REALTORS® have an opportunity to build the specialized knowledge needed to support seniors and their families through important housing decisions.

What REALTORS® can gain from the CCSR certification

Supporting senior clients may involve more than helping them buy or sell a property. It can also mean understanding emotional readiness, family dynamics, housing options, tax considerations and the unique needs that come with major life transitions.

From downsizing and multigenerational conversations to understanding available support and the emotional weight of leaving a long-time home, the CCSR certification gives members tools they can apply in real client conversations.

It also helps REALTORS® respond to a growing need in the market.

As more Canadians age, more families will look for trusted guidance from professionals who understand both the real estate process and the sensitive circumstances that can shape housing decisions later in life.

Why REALTORS® in Canada should choose this opportunity

Shaped by feedback from REALTORS®, the CCSR certification was built specifically for the Canadian real estate environment as part of CREA’s continued investment in Canadian-led learning opportunities.

Grounded in Canadian data, public programs and legislation, the program gives members practical tools to better support seniors and their families through housing decisions while reinforcing the professionalism reflected in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.

Who is the certification for?

For REALTORS® looking to build a specialized skillset and better support seniors and their families, the CCSR certification is an opportunity to strengthen expertise and provide informed, compassionate guidance when clients need it most.
