New Learning Opportunity to Create and Grow an Impactful Mentorship Program
How to enrol and why.
Is there a broker gap in the Canadian real estate industry?
Well, according to a 2024 survey of brokers who are members of the British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA), 47% of managing brokers said they intended to leave their role within the next six years.
When we spoke to Jennifer Lynch, Senior Vice-President of Professional Services at BCREA, she said that number was, “concerning, and a clear signal that our focus needs to be on developing and supporting the next generation of broker leaders.”
With a foundation of broker supports already in place, BCREA took the initiative to develop a course to ensure brokers have tools and resources to build and sustain effective mentorship programs and succession plans.
Now, in partnership with BCREA, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has launched a new learning opportunity for real estate leaders across the country to create an impactful program to help nurture the next generation of leadership. This course, Building Future Leaders: A Blueprint for Brokerage Mentorship Programs, is now open to enrolment for upcoming sessions.

REALTORS® in British Columbia should register for this course through BCREA.
Why mentorship is important, for everyone
It’s simple really: without new leadership talent consistently growing, any industry will face challenges.
Learning how to create mentorship opportunities is one way that existing leaders can get a head start on their own succession planning, sure, but can also be a way to attract and retain ambitious agents to your team. This course equips participants with the tools needed to make any mentorship program you undertake impactful for everyone involved.
What this course covers
Upon completion of Building Future Leaders: A Blueprint for Brokerage Mentorship Programs, participants will be able to:
- list the characteristics of a formal mentorship program;
- identify the key characteristics of mentees and mentors;
- implement strategies to recruit mentees and mentors;
- use key principles of mentor-mentee matching to facilitate a successful pairing;
- use mentorship agreements to solidify mentees' and mentors' responsibilities;
- provide mentors and mentees with strategies to facilitate the first meeting and subsequent meetings;
- evaluate the success of a mentorship program; and,
- explain the connections between mentorship and succession.
No two brokerages are alike, and now two mentorship programs need to be alike either. This program allows participants to learn the skills to create a customizable program that suits the unique needs of your brokerage or team, now and in the future.
How you’ll learn
This course is being offered through two distinct pathways.
- Self-guided eLearning.
- Instructor-led virtual sessions (launching fall 2026).
If you choose the self-guided path, you'll have six months from the date of enrolment to complete 12 modules and a final assessment.
If you choose the instructor-led path, you'll join virtual classes at set times where participation will be graded in lieu of a final assessment. Dates for this option will be announced as they're confirmed.
When the requirements for the path chosen are completed, participants will earn a certificate of completion.
Enrolment is now available through the CREA Learning Hub.
Adding this course to your professional development goals is a practical way to have a positive impact in your business now and in the future.
So, are you ready to take the next step?
