How REALTORS® Can Get More Leads with Smarter UX Design

Turn visitors into clients with these tips.

When I tell people I’m a UX (User Experience) Designer, I usually say, “my job is to ask ‘why?’”.

Why do people come to a website?

Why do they stay?

Why do they leave?

Why does a change help one group of users, but confuse another?

What UX really means

UX is all about how people experience your website or digital product. How easy it is to use, how clear the information is, and how smooth the journey feels. For REALTORS®, that means your clients can quickly find the information they need, understand your services, and take the next step to contact you.

On the REALTOR.ca UX team we use these principles to align business goals with user needs. Every update we make is tested, researched, and refined so that both consumers and REALTORS® have a seamless experience.

The good news? You don’t need to be a UX expert to apply these principles to your own website.

With a few small changes, REALTORS® can apply smarter UX design to their own websites and turn more visitors into leads.

Five UX tips REALTORS® can apply today

You don’t need to be a UX designer to improve your website. Here are five ways you can start.

1. Step into your client’s shoes

Think about your client’s goal when visiting your site. Can they find information quickly? Can they contact you easily? Seeing the journey through their eyes will help identify where improvements are needed.

2. Test with real people

Even if you built the site yourself, you’re too close to notice all the issues. Ask clients, friends, or colleagues to explore your website and watch where they get stuck. Then ask why it didn’t work for them. It’s just a simple way to identify gaps.

3. Make actions clear

Guide visitors with clear calls to action, such as:

  • “Contact me”
  • “Get advice”
  • “Find a home”

These buttons help users take the next step without frustration.

4. Keep it simple

Clarity comes first. Make key information easy to find and remove unnecessary clutter.

5. Consider yourself (the REALTOR®)

UX shouldn’t just benefit clients. It should make your workflow easier. Make sure your listings and tools are simple to manage, and test updates so that both you and your clients can adopt changes smoothly.

Bringing it all together

UX design is a practical way for REALTORS® to convert website visitors into leads. Improving clarity, usability, and guidance on your site can:

  • build trust with clients;
  • highlight your expertise; and
  • increase engagement and leads.

At REALTOR.ca, our goal is to make the home buying journey smoother for Canadians while keeping REALTORS® central to the experience.

Applying the same principles on your own website can help your clients find what they need, feel confident and reach out to you.

Now, try this!

Pretend you’re a first-time visitor to your website. Can you contact yourself in under three clicks? If not, it’s time for a UX refresh.
